Dear New Orleans ASNT Members The New Orleans ASNT Board has once again approved and set aside $1000 for Academic Student Scholarships for the next school year 2009-2010. Applications will be available to all members on our website. Please note the Qualifications, Requirements and Deadlines before applying. Please help by letting your friends and associates who may be eligible be aware of this academic scholarship The successful candidate(s) will receive the scholarship at the September 2009 Section Meeting. The student(s) and both parents will be given complimentary dinners. The Annual NDE Workshop and ASNT Advertising and Meeting Sponsorships allow us to provide these and more benefits to our members. Page 2 of 5ASNT 2009-20010 Scholarship Application- The New Orleans Section ofASNT provides Academic College Scholarships to Section member's legal dependents. In addition, all New Orleans ASNT members in good standing for three years as of June 2009 can each nominate one student. This is in addition to the member’s dependents. Scholarships are funded by Section’s Advertising and Education Programs. High School Seniors planning to or who have enrolled in college (current freshman) or College Students enrolled in an accredited College or University are invited to apply providedthey are fulltime students. Students enrolled in a School of Engineering or Basic Science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Biochemistry, Medical or Mathematics) may be given priority. Students with other majors are eligible depending on availability of funds. If you wish your son/daughter or spouse (i.e. taxable dependent) or a deserving student to be considered for a scholarship, please have him/her complete the attached application form and mail to the address below. Note an Official Transcript must be sent to theaddress below by August 20. The sponsor must be a ASNT NewOrleans Section Member in good standing (Has been a member for three years and has attended at least two (2) Section meetings or educational sponsored functions as a New Orleans member during the 2008-2009 Section year (September 2008 through June 2009). Section sponsored Educational courses will be counted provide the sponsor had paid the registration fee. Each day attended counts for one meeting. All candidates must currently have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA (grade point average) on 4.0-point scale. The successful candidate(s) will receive the scholarship at the September Section Meeting. The student(s) and both parents will be given complimentary dinners. The Scholarship committee consists of 5 members. Four (4) nominated annually by the Section Chairman and approved by a majority of the Board. The Section Chairman is the 5thmember of the committee. Funds for the Academic Scholarship are requested by the Scholarship Committee prior to each academic year. Additional funding can be requested should an unusual number of qualified and deserving applicants be received. The Scholarship committee must submit a final scholarship recommendation to the Board two weeks before the September Meeting for approval. (This can be done by email) ASNT also considers scholarships for NDT related classes or certification for the Section members in good standing. Applicants will have to show proof that their employer has refused to pay for said course(s). Send request to the Scholarship Chairman. A form for this type scholarship is available.
